The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older

2.25

I might have been inclined to grant this book a little leniency on its weird redundancies, stilted word choices (maybe it's a style choice that just didn't vibe with me?), and bare minimum characterization, but the complete and UTTER lack of chemistry between the two main characters killed it for me. It's set up like they're going to be the type to bicker, but after a truly tiny amount of friction in their first meeting... there's nothing. They don't even feel like friends, more like awkward coworkers realizing they kind of get along.

It's mercifully short, though. I'll give it that.
