Love/hate relationship with the book-within-a-book concept. On one hand, I struggle with the switchback. I become so engrossed with the “internal” book that I forget the details of the main story - after 230 “sidetrack” pages and so many characters in both storylines, it’s hard to keep all of the details straight. On the other hand- I love the dance of the mirrors in both stories. I love Susan’s chase for lions at the end because it’s similar to how I felt - searching the inner book for clues to the outer story. Just as with Magpie Murders, both storylines are heavy on the Agatha Christie feels. Four stars for confusion and length due to the book-within-a-book, but overall I really enjoyed it.
