I was assigned this book as a part of my teacher training in an Intermediate Senior English Curriculum course. I went into it expecting to dislike it. I imagined that the discussion of technology would feel outdated and superficial. I was surprised to find that this story was engaging, heartwarming and funny. I think the discussion of popularity and rumours would be interesting with students. I don't think it was anything mind blowing. It definitely rang as very heteronormative and I didn't love the presentation of the justice system. That said, I think it deserves a spot on an intermediate classroom library shelf and would be an accessible choice for reluctant readers.
