It's interesting looking back how this is portrayed as the time of the triumph of scientific enlightenment. I wonder if current times will ever feel like that in the future. Though in some ways it does still feel relevant to modern science, and you can definitely see a through line to modern science fiction. More internal/philosophical and much less action than I expected. You would think Victor, being so good at chemistry, would be smarter in other aspects of his life. But actually that's probably very realistic
