The Year We Fell Down
by Sarina Bowen
I am actually and honestly and totally suprised by how much I liked that book. Damn. I just wanted to read the first few pages last night and...... well. I finished it. Ups?
It's SO not my topic. Sport and then hockey? I don't even know how to play hockey! (Or do any kind sport except book lifting if that counts)
Luckily, it didn't deal so much with sport and more with what is left when you can't to what you love most. And I thought that was brilliantly handled.
I also liked that there wasn't additional drama in the sense of: You know, you could just TALK with eachother?
The drama that was there was believable and heartwarming. And whaaaat? A love interest who isn't a complete douchbag? Yeah, Hartley wasn't always a perfect human being but who is, in the end? I could always understand why he did things he did and I liked that he talked honestly about his motives. Yeah, they were not the most decent, but come one - I'm pretty sure that most of us had a friend or even a girlfriend or boyfriend and stayed with them for the wrong reasons - or wanted to be with someone for the wrong reasons.
Not 5 stars because ... I don't know. Even though I liked the lovestory, I was still caught by suprise how FAST Corey was falling for him. That troubled me a bit.
But all in all, I really enjoyed reading it. It didn't feel toxic, it was a light, heartwarming read.
