The Haunted Mask by R.L. Stine
4.0

I knew when I started my revisit of this series for this challenge, I was really anticipating getting to The Haunted Mask. Often regarded as The Best Goosebumps book which itself is a tall order to achieve considering how many books there are, but Great stories as well. So in summarizing the story: It's Halloween and Carly Beth Caldwell is the most picked on girl by her peers. She's tired of the constant harassment and bullying. Seriously this is just bullying: some kids even put a Worm in her lunch and laugh when she eats it.
These kids deserved the scare from her.
So she buys an ugly mask from a nearby party store, only the mask isn't all it seems.
I'm just going to be honest: I think this story is pretty popular amongst fans who saw the episode which is actual one of the Best goosebumps episodes.
The concept is truly frightening and the episode really hits it home with stellar acting and a sense of the torment Carly Beth goes through.
I understand the book was trying to encapsulate that feeling and I did feel sympathy for Carly Beth but not as much.
This is one of those rare cases when the adaptation did it better than its source. I love any kind of Halloween story though and stine still does good with details but I was kind of tuning out near the end. It's a good story, but the Best Goosebumps story? Controversial opinion: I have to disagree.
