I did find the gory details of the murders at the beginning quite disturbing, even though I've read books with violent murder scenes before. At the beginning of the book, some passages, it was clear, had been translated literally from French but it got much better after that. I have to say that the translated work done by Frank Wynne was fantastic and I don't think many people appreciate how hard it is.
There are many surprises in this book. I didn't see them coming, though I had guessed who was behind the murders.
I really enjoyed this read, despite the beginning, and can't wait to start Alex, which is the sequel. Irene has made me wonder what kind of person Camille is.
