Well written with some very good moments and great prose but overall not the most original story and generally quite depressing rather than inspiring or hopeful. I feel like I should have liked it more but it mostly left me sad and disappointed in the ending which overshadowed the better parts of this novel. 

I did really like how the characters changed over time and the line about h

e thought he was me and I was him was wonderful

but the whole

cryosleep matrix thing

was just dumb and really made the rest of the book feel less important. I feel like if this had been done in a way that made everything that happened earlier significant the whole thing would have been much better overall and the ending wouldn't have been so bad. 

If you need a good cry then read this book as most everything up until the end is beautiful.
