A beautifully written and incredibly haunting tale, told from the perspective of Pheby Delores Brown, a 17-year-old living at the Bell Plantation in the 1850’s. This story covers themes such as motherhood, found family, and the lengths that these characters went to protect their children.

Despite this being a work of fiction, the author Sadeqa Johnson noted that she pulled inspiration from a true story and heavily researched the history that she based the book off of. This book was often difficult to read - please consider the content warnings prior to picking up this book.
