Batgirl, Volume 1: Batgirl of Burnside by Cameron Stewart

5.0

I had been wondering if this new Batgirl could live up to all the hype. It certainly does. It's weird that I've met the creators before I even had the chance to see the work. There's clever pacing in the panels clearly showing Babs visiting people in different work environments and you know exactly what's going on without any confusion. The lettering is fresh and helpful showing a lot of narrative captions in a new way to give readers a look at the text messages. The bodies aren't grossly skeletal and badly proportioned like some comics. The coloring has a shift during a fight sequence in the first chapter but overall it keeps the mood lighter and far from the Nolan Batverse grit.
