A Friend in the Dark by Samantha M. Bailey
3.0
semi spoiler
OK, so the story was about a woman who was too dumb to see what we all saw coming a mile away. The story was OK. Kind of predictable. It did grip me I’d say mid way but it was annoying as hell.
This woman Eden was a little bit of a jackass. If this was an 80s horror movie, this dummy would be rolling her ankles every three steps. I don’t know what Olivia was even thinking. It all seemed really convoluted, but she was desperate I guess . The whole thing with Olivia was really convoluted, but I guess you have to find the drama where you can because writing a book is hard I guess. Ava, Eden’s daughter was was acting out in a very cliché fashion. And the husband, Dave, a sweet guy from the description but the guy sexually repressed his own damn self. How do you do that??
Eden was a goof, like the greenest white woman you’d ever met. I kinda got the vibe that if she saw someone who didn’t look like they belonged in her neighborhood, she’d immediately call 911 and believes almost every post on Facebook. She’s the Facebook aunt.
The Justin guy was a sociopath, but even after she was put into the basement by Justin and later, found out that Justin killed a friend of theirs then Justin beat her daughter and she saw and realized Justin victimized his wife for YEARS Somehow all of the blame had been on Olivia. She was a nut, BUT THERE WERE EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES, AND IT WASN’T ALL HER FAULT. There was almost no understanding at all. This whole family was a family of doofuses. I had to put down the book a few times because I end up rolling my eyes and throwing my hands up and going “girl what the hell are you doing“
Eden is an idiot read at your own risk. OK that was dramatic. It was a halfway decent read.
