This book has it all. A new-to-me author, Xio Axelrod is not only an author but a musician and you can certainly tell that by her detailed description of the music industry inside and out. I couldn’t put this down. Xio knows how to capture your attention!
There’s our main character, Antonia “Toni” Bennett and her childhood crush, Sebastian “Quick” Quigley who run into each other by chance as adults after not seeing each other for 7 years. They’ve both had heartbreaking childhoods. Can they mend the hurt and start over as adults? Let me tell you there’s a truck load of baggage each of them needs to deal with to pursue ANY relationship and makes for fascinating reading.
Then there’s the LILLY’s - the all girl rock band - which may give Toni a shot at stardom. If she wants it. Because she’s really trying to be a producer - behind the scenes. Her mom was always reaching for the stars and Toni was always left behind. But now she may have a real chance to shine. Reading her struggles and seeing her strength to go on when faced with so many challenges is compelling reading.
Did I mention I couldn’t put this down? It’s a fascinating read, as it has the music industry backdrop, the good and the terrible, a badass girl band, each member a complex and enticing story on their own - you just want to read MORE.
Xio provides bonus content - a look at the Lilly’s music, her own background, book group discussion questions, but most importantly, she provides a story you won’t soon forget. I’m SO EXCITED for the next book in the Lilly’s saga. Truly a joy to read this one and I’m grateful I’ve found this author.
