Grave Situation by Louisa Masters
5.0
I recently devoured Grave Situation by Louisa Masters, and I’m officially obsessed! This book waltzed onto my TBR thanks to some clever recs based on my reading history—but the final nail in the coffin (pun absolutely intended) was my favorite booktuber, @caricanread, raving about it.
Grave Situation is a standalone fantasy adventure featuring Talon, our delightfully reluctant and snarky hero. Talon is a student—and also a professor (we love a multi-tasking king)—at a magical academy, teaching injured students how to harness magic. But when a mysterious object appears at the school, he’s suddenly thrust into a quest alongside his sister and a dreamy healer. Think dragons, mages, and… zombies?! Yes, please.
My absolute favorite part of this book was the characters. Talon stole my heart, but special mention goes to Coryn, the ultimate cinnamon roll who shows up about 30% into the story and immediately had me swooning. Honestly, every scene with him was perfection.
While this was a five-star read for me, it’s not entirely flawless. The pacing in the first half was chef’s kiss, but the second half dragged a bit, and the plot wandered off the main path in places. Still, I was so invested in the characters (and Coryn, forever and ever) that I didn’t mind too much.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! If you’re craving magical adventure, witty banter, and characters who will steal your soul, give Grave Situation a try!
