Race to the Sun
by Rebecca Roanhorse
3.5
I love Rick Riordan's publishing imprint SO MUCH. I am so happy that this fun, exciting Navajo adventure exists for readers of all ages and cultures to enjoy!
Roanhorse did a fantastic job of weaving Navajo culture and history into this modern story without being info-dumpy or jarring. It was super accessible and enjoyable even as an adult.
I did notice that the trials were rather abrupt. I wish there had been more suspense and detail. I'm not sure if that's something that younger readers will care about though!
Mac also came across as being much younger than Nihzoni. The 10 month age difference didn't seem to be enough with how young he acted. Nonetheless, their sibling dynamic was very sweet and I loved the family focus that this story had!
The story wrapped itself up nicely, but I would love for this to end up being a series or for Roanhorse to write other similar stories!
