A bloody, brutal coming-of-age story with beautiful prose and vivid descriptions. A storm is coming. The lives of a close-knit group of young men are forever altered after the murder of one of their mothers. As a hurricane reaches the shores of Puerto Rico, revenge is brewing in the heart of a devastated son. Moving from one chaotic confrontation to another, this band of brothers and their loved ones reap the consequences. Even when there is a pause in the action, the narrators minds are never at rest. They are contemplating their futures, remembering moments from the past while trying to unravel the mystery of who, and what, is involved in their present situation. These young men raise a middle finger to toxic masculinity by openly expressing their platonic love for each other, their dreams and hopes, while picking up a gun or knife with their other hand. From the storm-ravaged streets of Puerto Rico to the coastal mysteries of La Perla, the cycle of grief, loss, and hope plays on repeat. Love, what we do in the name of love and what happens to that love when loss has ripped a hole in our hearts beats at the centre of House of Bone and Rain; a crime mystery thriller with a paranormal spirit.
