Mind the Gap, Dash & Lily by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan
3.0

Lily and Dash are now in their third Christmas season together. The only problem is Dash is away in London at Oxfords university while lily is taking a gap year. But then Lily decides to surprise Dash in London and things go haywire

Review:
This book began similarly to the last, Lily and Dash having relationship problems. Only this time it was because Dash was off at college In London and Lily was back in New York. Lily was the epitome of jealous girlfriend for the beginning of the book, except she was jellies of his grandma so that was weird. She was having similar problems to the last book where she was just expecting him to know what she wanted without telling him. I’m glad to say that this did not last the entire book.

Lily’s mom (and family) was way too pushy about her going to a specific college just because everyone in her family had gone there. It was really unfair of them. They literally are so dramatic. On the other hand I also see their point of not wanting Lily to just give up on college to be a professional dog walker. Lily really projects her anxiety into her relationship with Dash while he’s having anxiety and depressed and just trying his best to make her happy.

Boomer makes a small appearance in this story. Again his character goes from being dumb as a bag of rocks to saying things that make too much sense.

Gem, dash’s unknown grandma was just Mrs. Basil E which just seemed lazy on the authors part.

The story had a lot of coincidences that just seemed too random or convenient to me. Like Lily’s mom just happening to know a professor at Barnard, Dash’s grandma knowing one of the biggest publishers personally, lily becoming a insta famous dog walker to the point that they got special treatment from recognition in a different country.

Overall maybe I am just growing out of this type of genre.
