The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton
2.0
I really struggled with this. If it weren’t Kate Morton, I think I’d have given up on it before 1/2 way. It was not up to snuff. A meagre 2 stars from me.
You know where one feels lots of time has gone by, but is constantly clock watching and really it’d only been a few minutes? I was doing the same with this reading. Certain I’d put in a good effort a read a chunk, only to be dismayed by the fact I’d read only several pages. It dragged.
Also, her writing bothered me in a way it never has; characters were introduced too swiftly and remained grossly underdeveloped. (Morton did, however, use one of my favourite words, twice - detritus - so points for that.)
Underwhelming. Take me back to The Forgotten Garden!
