David Mogo, Godhunter
by Suyi Davies Okungbowa
fast-paced
I didn’t like this book quite as much as the other work by Okungbowa that I’ve read, Lost Ark Dreaming. I liked a lot of the themes presented—the search for home, the idea that you’re the villain in your own villain’s story, the fear that you destroy everything and everyone you touch—but didn’t feel as though they were fleshed out as much as I’d like. The final resolution also fell kind of flat to me.
I thought the conflicts between characters who were on the same side was really good! I like when protagonists squabble with each other lmao. It often makes for more interesting reading. Some of the worldbuilding was also fun, like the recipe for the potion that makes weapons more potent against gods.
