teecee97 's review for:
The Other Boleyn Girl
by Philippa Gregory
Listen, as someone who has graduated with a BA in history I can say this. The book does have some historical inaccuracies, I won’t add them in this review so I don’t spoil it for you. That being said, I have to say, I did enjoy the book. I liked the plot of it, I liked how the author imagined Mary’s live and her relationship with Henry VII and her sister Anne. I often find that when authors try to write fictional books about famous figures in history, it’s okay to kind of give them a little bit of a break when it comes to fleshing out parts of the story. The book is historical fiction. It’s fiction. There is not really an awful lot of information about her early years and little is known about her life and if the author was writing a book about Mary Boleyn with all the facts, then it would just be a history book. Philippa Gregory did what she could. She needed to fudge the facts to make the story more exciting for her fan base. I did like the book, I thought it was entertaining. I know what she wrote about Mary Boleyn’s life isn’t the true facts. I did think that the characters could have been more developed and its not the best historical fiction book that I’ve read. I didn’t like the colloquial language that she seemed to use throughout the book and often the characters were a bit one dimensional. Philippa Gregory is an author, she is not a historian.
