Delilah Green Doesn't Care
by Ashley Herring Blake
fast-paced
2,75-3⭐
What I needed at the moment.
It was a quick read, sometimes cute and sometimes boring imho but It wasn't too bad.
-I really liked Delilah's and Ruby's relationship as big and little sisters. And honestly they have more in common than the real couple lol.
- I liked and find justified Claire's trust issues towards her ex: he's been an unreliable man and father that made both mother and daughter suffer a lot, so it's perfectly right to be on the edge and worried.
-And I'm really really glad that the girls hadn't made "the talk" to Astrid and that she accepted alone what a real pile of shit her boyfriend was (and her mom too).
-the writing
The author is repetitive, uses too much similes and I still don't know why, but she has an hyper fixation for the 'white women' (?)
"Delilah glanced over her shoulder at the sleeping white woman next to her."
"The woman was white and had just reached the bar."
Ooook? What's the point? It's not like there are black characters and you need to distinguish between them (if I'm not wrong, there is a photo with a black woman, but nothing more🤷 don't know, it felt weird)
They're all White Americans Raaawhha 🦅
Iris
I don't like her very much. She's annoying, is not funny and doesn't know when to shut up.
Characters/Humor
I'm aware this is a sort of comedy, but the characters are too stereotyped and it felt like watching an average sit-com: they're always ready with a pun or a good answer (I don't like it, it doesn't feel real).
Also, they're immature even though they're 30-ish y.o. I mean, you know your best friend is making the greatest mistake in all her life and you don't tell her? Ok, I've written above that I'm glad they didn't, because that lead to Astrid's self-growth, but their first excuse was:"oh no poor Astrid, she's too stressed we can't make things worse for her and she won't listen to us anyway. Let's push her fiance in the river instead, just because he is an asshole".
Maybe you could've suggested an "intervention" as in Himym? C'mon, you've been best friends for 20 years, just be the adults you should be...
Plot twist
Well it was obvious, and that prevented me to fully empathize with Astrid-Delilah's sour relationship.
Romance
I liked it but it wasn't groundbreaking. Still good, just not my favourite by writing and execution 🤷 the fact that it took only two weeks for Claire and Delilah to be hopelessly in love made it feel too rushed. Perhaps their relationship will be better explored in the other books.
