I picked this book up curious about it because of the book description and was pleasantly surprised. This is a quick read at less than 300 pages but it is well written with a fresh story line and idea. If you like Greek Mythology then I think you'll like this one. The FMC is a sheltered girl who finds herself in the middle of a world of the arete that she does not know how to navigate. With one fateful act her entire world is upended and it is one betrayal after another until she questions everything and everyone around her. New friendships, lost friendships, friendships restored and some lost again. A journey of self-discovery and coming of age and learning to be comfortable with who and what you are. But....in the midst of this can El learn to navigate this new world and protect those she loves or will she be left with nothing but ash in the end of it all?

There is "romance" and love, betrayal, and trust broken....and the end leaves you wondering how the entire thing will play out.

I found this book to be fresh and fun. I can't wait to finish the series - and just a hint: if you visit the author's website you can get the novella (to be red between books 2 and 3) and the two short e-stories (Less than 30 pages) to be read between books 1 & 2 for free. And yes, I already read those - all three of them even though it meant reading one out of order with the series.

And yes - I've already bought the remaining two books to finish sometime in the next week or so between other books I have open currently.
