Twenty Years Later started out slowly for me, but once I got the characters straight, what a roller coaster of a ride. The story is about Avery Mason, a television star journalist. She sets out to solve a murder that happened twenty years earlier. The murder was never taken to trial because the key suspect was in the twin towers on 9/11 and didn't survive. Avery Mason has a complicated past because she is the daughter of a hedge fund manager who bilked billions out of his clients before he disappeared. Avery is making a name for herself, but she doesn't want anyone to find out who she really is.
This book is more than a thriller. Donlea touches on the themes of truth, reputation, justice, and what it means to be a survivor of a terrible accident.
I liked this book first and foremost because I couldn't figure it out. The clues were there, but I just didn't link them together. I also liked it because every time I thought I knew what was going on in the plot and where it was going, Charlie Donlea wrote another twist into the story. I will definitely read more of his books.
