Towers Falling
by Jewell Parker Rhodes
I liked this and I think our young readers will like it too. BUT I didn't LOVE it. I am just so tired of books with blatant agendas - ones that scream at you while you read them. And this was one of those books - quite heavily, in fact.
It is Deja's story - a fifth grader - struggling with family issues and a new school. When the school starts teaching their curriculum around the the Twin Towers and what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, everything Deja knows is thrown into turmoil - including her Dad's story, her own story, and the lives of her classmates. They grow, they all do - but growth is not without heartache.
