Skinwalker by Faith Hunter

I was hoping for something like the Mercy Thompson series that would hook me on (Native American heroine, shapeshifters, Native American folklore, etc.), but it just fell flat on me. Beast sounds like it was a hit or miss for many other readers and for me, it was a miss. I wasn't a huge fan of Beast's inner thoughts. At first it was fresh and new, but it quickly got old. I can't imagine reading more of Beast's inner thoughts. I wasn't so interested in the origins of Jane's bond with Beast. I appreciate that it took Jane time, calories, mass, etc. to shapeshift and Hunter tried to inject some "reality" into it, but I'm already an avid PNR/PNF reader, how much further of a stretch is it for me to accept that shapeshifters shift into their animal forms in less than 5 minutes?
