I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

emotional medium-paced
I don't rate  memoirs for various reasons.

This book was hard to read at times. Her mother put their whole family though a lot of emotional turmoil for some very selfish gain.  Side-note, while I was aware of the show iCarly, I didn't watch it mainly because I was not the target audience.

The way she tells her story, was in a format that I think some of the people who gave this a low-star rating (something that I just find weird) just weren't expecting or used to. Each event is told as if it's currently happening.  Which doesn't leave room for that reflection I saw some people wanting. But I don't think that was the point of the book. She has reflected on what has happened to her, she seems to have mostly healed from it, at least to a degree. I am extremely impressed in how she's been able to get where she is, and I'm not sure she'd be here if her mother was still alive.

This was an extremely important story to tell. As it points out the very common and very overlooked case of mother-daughter abuse. Her mother was abusive in several ways towards her, and most of it was very disturbing. I hope this book helps other people who might be going or have gone through something similar and didn't realize what it was.
