I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
R. Dugan has done it again with this first book of the Starchaser saga, Darkwind! She pulls you in right away so it was easy to get invested in the characters. I could immediately tell that this story was going to be the set-up for something even larger. There is definitely action, but you get enough time with the characters and their thoughts and conversations to get to know them. The darker tones and motion are well balanced with tender moments that catch you by surprise, drawing you deeper into an emotional connection with certain characters. There's almost this raw power that they leave you with, and I love it; these aren't one-dimensional characters, y'all. ;) I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book, but I guess I have no choice. :)
