John Keane’s 2009 tome is not outdated. In just under 900 pages, Keane addresses the past, present and future of democracy in 3 parts: Assembly Democracy; Representative Democracy; and Monitory Democracy.
My reading focusing on his largest section, the third, which focused on the future development of democracy through what he coined, Monitory Democracy. Monitory Democracy in brief is a democracy characterised by instruments of public monitoring and scrutinising of government power, though it is far to complex to describe in brief.
Keane, born in Australia, in 1949, is described by the Times of London as 'one of the world's leading political thinkers and writers.
