I decided to read War and Peace for the same reason many people do: it's a classic. Within the first few pages, however, I found myself reading not out of obligation but true interest.
Everyone who reads War and Peace takes something different from it- I've heard this time and time again and found it to be true. This book has something for everyone: philosophy, action, romance, etc. Overall, however, one thing remains true; War and Peace is a story about humanity.
*4.5 Despite absolutely loving this book, I will admit, I found some of the scenes (Nikolai's life as a soldier, specifically a few of the earlier scenes) dragged a bit for me the first time I read this. Because of that, I feel I can't give this book a full five stars. That being said, the fact that I loved this enough to reread it should count in its favor.
