The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

4.0

This is a fun, zippy science fiction novel with a very Star Trek/Firefly feel. More upbeat and optimistic than most modern-day speculative fiction, which was a pleasant change of pace. There's not a very complicated plot, but I thought the world-building made up for it, with lots of strange alien cultures to read about. I enjoyed this novel much more than I expected to, and I'm looking forward to picking up the sequel.
