Stories like this are the reason most bookworm Millenials will die alone. We set the bar at sacrifice yourself to keep the one you love safe, and also small bonus if you also save the world. We want high stakes love like Silhara and Martise’s. A great mage battling a corrupted god, faced with the wit of a seemingly mousy woman sent to spy on him in order to save her legit soul. That’s how we start this tale of murder, (get it???), with the loving stench of Cael and Gurn’s domesticated rebellion. The power system is average but for the MC’s it is perfectly explained and put together well. This is a slow burn that then becomes a race to the orgasmic finish line. At times I felt like there was so much story left for the small amount of pages left. But all in all I was satisfied from beginning to end. Her wit, his courage, made for steamy banter back and forth and wonderful scenes of passionate exchange that had nothing to do with spice were beautifully put together. There was emotion and passion and spice and honest to goodness wholesome experiences shared between the MCs. I liked it.
