I wish they struggled more with the clues Tembo gave them. He went through all the work of making sure no one could find all these gifts and locked them behind riddles and a bunch of kids just instantly figure it out? You'd think if he wanted to make sure most people couldn't find them then it wouldn't be so easy for the first person that looks at it.
They are falling for ANOTHER bird spy. This happens to them so often I would expect them to be paranoid about every single bird they see, but I guess not. I guess they are just going to be surprised by every single one of them every single time this happens. It feels like the authors of these books simply can't find a better way to get the bad guys to them than just recycle this scene over and over while calling it a coincedence over and over. Then immediately after the Oathbound "suddenly found them again." Wow, didn't see that coming. Furthermore, they set up camp in the only spot with trees? It makes sense, but again, why wouldn't the Oathbound also suspect you are in the place with the only cover?
I don't understand how they got surrounded by hyenas. Uraza and Briggan should have been able to smell them from a mile away. It was just a way to get Anka to fight, which is frankly a bit of a boring way to show off her skills because the situation really should not have happened at all.
I really like that Xanthe gave them doubts about what collecting the gifts would actually do for them. They have been blindly following Olvan's orders without really knowing anything about them, showing they have been through a lot but in the end are still kids just trying to make it in the world with adult guidance.
It keeps making no sense. Getting stabbed in the stomach will not cause breathing problems lol. Why could Kovo get out of the Greencloaks' chains but not the Oathbounds'? Why wouldn't Takoda just put him into passive state then immediately release him as another way out?
The twist was very exciting though! I was NOT expecting any of that despite reading so many books about the characters at this point.
