Lord of Eternal Night by Ben Alderson

4.0

This book was my first foray into both the works of Ben Alderson and LGBTQ+ fantasy works, and I can honestly say I have not looked back since. This book opened my eyes to a whole new genre of books that I have not been able to stop reading since.

Jak is a strong and brave character who must decide whether his family’s legacy is stronger than his own sense of right and wrong. He is an interesting character that develops nicely throughout this book.

Marius is burdened with a curse that makes him into a vicious beast, but his real personality shows through when he interacts with Jak as the story progresses. he is dark and broody throughout the beginning of the book but learns to deal with his guilt towards the end.

The relationship development of enemies to lovers between Marius and Jak is in keeping with the original story idea of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and I love this retelling.

Whilst this book is not completely grammatically correct and there are a few spelling errors in some places, I am fully in love with both the characters, their relationship and the story arc as a whole. This was the first book for a while that I read in one sitting; I simply couldn’t put the book down.
