My English Lit professor said that after we started studying literature and reading literary critique, we would be ruined to reading forever; she apologized for doing that to us in the first semester class. I didn’t understand her then, but I do now.

I decided to read this book after finishing the mandatory reads: Shakespeare, Charlotte Brontë, and Henry James, among other great writers. I thought I would have some fun with a light read, a cute romantic comedy. I was not ready for all the smut, Wattpad in a novel, but that was not the worst, even though it was cringe AF.

The reason why this book is not good is: what character arc? What development do we see from Pipper? I’m supposed to believe she’s endured much when she barely spent a month away from home, never ran out of money, immediately has a bf, and everyone was friendly to her. The author demonstrates nothing throughout the novel, reaches the end, and tells us Pipper is amazing and expects the reader to accept it. It doesn’t work like that, honey.
Also, how are these two so in love and ready for kids after 5 weeks when more than 2 he spent in the sea? They had probably 3 weeks together. Am I supposed to believe 3 weeks make such a love story? At least make it realistic.
Some images and similes were bad. And too often, the writer explains things to us as if she expects all her readers to be too stupid to understand she means his penis. Honey, we know what you mean.
The plot was obvious at points because we are dealing with clichés. The characters are ok, I guess. But not memorable. Pipper is not extraordinary; there are a million Pippers out there.
The issues they have towards the end are the natural consequences of a romance that started 5 minutes ago and their lack of communication, which tells me there is much maturing they need to do.
