Codependent No More: How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself by Melody Beattie

3.0

“To be happy we need someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to.”

This book was incredibly helpful to me and full of wonderful lessons, but fell victim to two very crucial things that made the book difficult to relate to for myself. This is just a personal thought though, because as the author said she is not a scientist, much of this is anecdotal and related to experience, so if this is someone else’s experience, it would be perfect.

1. This books lessons were mostly related to codependents with chemical dependents, and I think the scope was a bit narrow.
2. There was a focus on Christianity, so if you don’t have that religion parts will not relate.

So much of the book and many of the lessons still resonate and hit home, and i do believe reading it has made me a better, and more whole person.
