rodeutsch 's review for:
The Unburied Dead
by Douglas Lindsay
Don't get me wrong, I liked the book ... enjoyed the plot, the characters, the storyline. I appreciated the tone and the language.
What I couldn't get away from is the similarity between this book and Ken Bruen's Jack Taylor series. I really felt like I was reading a book about Jack Taylor's brother. Heck, one of the central character's is named Taylor.
I wouldn't say the book started slowly, but the pace did pick up at the mid-point, but there wasn't necessarily a push to conclusion, although everything does tidy up at the end ... with a few loose ends, that's why it's the first Thomas Hutton Detective of what I imagine is a series from Lindsay.
I will read subsequent installments, and hope the next has a voice that isn't so much like Bruen's.
