This novel makes it to my top-ten list. The plot is compelling to the point where I cannot put the book down and I would find myself wondering about it when I was not reading. The book was great up until the last few chapters and then it blew my mind! I had to flip back and forth several times to make sure I understood what happened as it was so brilliant.

I love the style of blending the past and present and how the reader comes to know vital information before Laurel - one of the main characters.

Overall it seamlessly incorporates love, war, mystery and independence with just the right amount of suspense.
