What can I say - I’m a huge sucker for young adult thriller/mysteries, and Karen M. McManus always delivers. The small town in New England private school vibes are always perfect for a murder mystery. This book, just like many of her others, hits all the marks I want in this genre - a strong female lead, fully developed and realistic cast of teenage characters, just enough red herrings, and impeccable pacing. The mystery itself was page-turning, and the character dynamics, as usual, kept the story even more engaging. I like that McManus usually manages to slip in a small romance without overtaking the main plot, and this one was super cute and believable. While I can’t say that it’s likely I’ll remember details of this one after a while, I do know that I listened to this nonstop for three days and thoroughly enjoyed myself the entire time. It seems like the ending was setting up for a potential sequel, which I think could be interesting, but at this point I’ll pick up anything from this author because she seamlessly delivers exactly what I love about young adult mysteries every time.
