Graphic Novel Night: Book 3

To finish off the night I’m back where I started: with an 18 year old girl who thinks she’s fucked up beyond repair. Like with Raleigh in Lost At Sea, she’s not really different, she just has complicated human emotions. Except this time, no one is there to give her a hug and everyone around her IS fucked up. Forsman’s world is full of sociopaths and creeps, its a dark and depressing view of society that doesn’t have a happy ending.

Alyssa was born into this world and its all she’s ever known. She struggles to connect with those around her and blames herself for this empty feeling, but it’s ultimately everyone else who is letting her down.

I’m not sure this book has a lot to say. Hurt people hurt people. Idk. But regardless the art in this graphic novel is just so incredibly well done and fits the story so perfectly that its hard not to give it five stars. It uses some similar black and white comic style techniques as Lost At Sea, but expands on them and even breaks its own rules in some exceptionally great moments. Incredible read.

My other graphic novel night reads don’t have reviews on here, but they do on Goodreads. Still figuring out the transition to Storygraph
