Fantastic survival story with a girl who is amazingly strong, despite tremendous odds against her. It is a very bleak story at times (from the opening paragraph, when she writes a letter that she hopes will be found by someone after she dies of exposure, starvation, or animal attack!) but ultimately very positive. Great transformational story, too, as Jess really grows into her strength after starting out as a very weak, injured, inept-at-wilderness-skills urbanite; by the end of the story she can survive anything, anywhere in the starkest of wilderness environments.
