Quite a change of pace compared to other Abercrombie books, moving much more slowly than I’m used to. Despite this, I enjoyed the focus on battle and the multi-perspective take on how scenes played out. It was quite clever how sometimes a character who had just killed or intersected with the character who’s perspective you’d been reading would take over the narrative.
Loved the continuation of the mysterious plot underneath the entire First Law universe, and loved catching up with familiar characters.
This took so long to finish. I’m not sure if it was the format, or what, but I could not engage in the story sometimes in the first half. Perhaps if the Day 1 section was halved, I’d have been more engaged? Regardless, I am glad I read it and as always, I look forward to my next Abercrombie read.
