A beautifully written historical war romance with a fantasy world setting.
While the main story does revolve around a magical penpal relationship, the magic is not necessarily the focus of this story. Magic and gods feel more like a happenstance.
This is not a negative but a note that has to be shared in case someone's hope is a truly fantasy romance.
Little to no spice but I didn't feel like it was missed personally. It felt like it fit the time period.
I agree, to a degree, with a review I read previously that this book DOES read more like a YA book than some others. It doesn't feel young per se but doesn't describe things in an overly complex way or have an incredibly in depth world building scenario which makes it an easier read.
