The Good Sister
by Sally Hepworth
I loved this book. Fern and Wally are perfect characters. I appreciated that though their characters had sensory processing disorders, neither of them were stereotypical characters labeled as autistic. Authors are generally trying too hard to write about something “on trend” like autism, but often get it wrong. This portrayal was a breath of fresh air. Them both wearing goggles and headphones in public was equal parts endearing and practical. I loved the way Wally tried to make accommodations for Fern any way he could. I also appreciate that Hepworth can write characters that you love and characters that you hate with the same level of emotion. Overall, it was a great book.
