Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S. Thompson
5.0
Hunter S. Thompson was never exactly shy about his dislike of Nixon, but perhaps his best broadsides against the most corrupt American President prior to Trump come in his coverage of the 1972 election.
However, the real gem of the book comes on the Democratic side of the card, as Thompson chronicles the unlikely success of a candidate who was genuinely offering something new - and was, as a result, smothered by the party establishment before he could probably take a shot at Nixon. Parallels to recent presidential primaries are eye-opening.
