Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom

Wow. This was a page turner. Abitha, Edward and Samson were so endearing. I loved hearing Abi’s inner dialogue of all of her woes. The townsfolk really sucked. If you think your childhood church was fundamentalist, well it’s got nothing on the Puritan church. So interesting to think about the Puritans leaving persecution in Europe to come to the New World and enslave themselves under a graceless, accusing God.

The book was gory. I didn’t enjoy all the vengeance. It was sad to see Abi become the very evil she was accused of. One things for sure, in this story evil begets evil, but it often originates with the ones who consider themselves righteous.

Will be thinking about this one for a long time. The illustrations are incredible and horrifying!
