I got this series competely out of order, so I read A Rising man (#1 in the series) after all the others. I went as slow as I could with this one because I didn't want to finish it, hope there are more of these in the pipeline... they are very good stories, you care for the main characters (which is the main criteria for me when reading a book or watching a film), who are interesting and conflicted but have their heart and minds in the right place. While reading and enjoying the various crime mysteries, one learns a lot about colonial rule in India and the city of Calcutta and its inhabitants. What more could one want from a book?
