Wild Hearts by Kacey Shea
3.0

3.5 stars

Wild Hearts is the first book in the first book in the Wilder Valley series, but it can be read as a a standalone.

Val and Ryan were high school sweethearts, but they broke up when Val left their small town. Twenty-two years later, after Val’s many successes, she gets caught in a scandal and returns home. While looking for a job, she runs into Ryan and he hires her to be his nanny.

This was my first book where characters were in their 40s, so it was interesting to see how they’d act (considering they’ve had more life experience) compared to characters that are younger. And honestly, they were a bit immature at times.

Despite that, I was glad to see them slowly reconnect. It was great seeing Ryan’s kids bond with Val, especially his teenage daughter (who came across as unfriendly toward Val).

I also loved the found family aspect; Ryan’s family was always welcoming to Val (in their past and the present).

This was my first Kacey Shea book, but it will not be the last.

Audio:
Narrators: Robert Hatchet and Holly Warren
Style: Dual

This was my first time listening to Holly Warren, and I thought she did a great job. I’ve listened to Robert Hatchet a couple of times, and he’s always done well, and this was no exception. They both brought the characters and story to life.

Tropes:
Small Town
Single Dad x Nanny
Second Chance
Main Characters in their 40s
