Anoka: A Collection of Indigenous Horror by Shane Hawk

5.0

This was an incredibly well written anthology of horror stories that completely drew me in. Every story is gripping in its own way. Indigenous symbolism is weaved throughout every story, but isn't over-the-top. It creates such a deep and dark mood for these stories; heavy, opressed, sometimes hopeless yet rich and meaningful. The writer did such an amazing job of drawing me into the stories so that I could clearly see all of the details and feel every emotion even if I wanted to squeeze my eyes shut and cover my ears at times *shiver*
These stories felt too real even though I've never experienced anything even close to the subject matter.
The creepy factor is at an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. Go read it! You may want to start sleeping with earplugs, but not for reasons you might think.
