I'm Telling the Truth, but I'm Lying: Essays by Bassey Ikpi
Did not finish book. Stopped at 42%.
Trying to get better at not finishing books I don’t actually want to finish…
I have a couple of theories as to why I didn’t like this book, since it by all accounts has components that I love.
1. The use of the second person felt self-indulgent to me. Like it was trying to put someone’s memoir on me.
2. Maybe it felt too close to my own story and way of expressing myself that it ended up sounding overdone and forced.
3. It also could’ve been the audiobook, that it would’ve been more powerful if I had been reading it with the voice in my head.
