An exceptionally creepy retelling of Edgar Alan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher”. Despite its short novella length, Kingfisher absolutely nails the atmospheric, decaying vibe that prevalent in gothic horror novels. When reading some novella-length stories, I find myself wanting more by the end. But this book has more twists, turns, and creepy moments than most other full-length novels. I would definitely recommend this to fans of horror novels and I would especially recommend it as a starting place for folks who want an introduction to the gothic horror genre.
Moderate: Animal cruelty, Animal death
Minor: Death, Murder
