This book was so incredibly informative and very accessible. As someone who sometimes struggles to read nonfiction, as it can feel textbook-y and I get easily distracted, this book was written in a manner that was easy to follow. I loved seeing the pictures as well, it added to Grann’s storytelling. I appreciate how he didn’t stop at the prosecution of the “main” killer, but included his own path of research that lead to what the Osage have always known- the killings weren’t isolated to one puppetmaster. You can really tell Grann was passionate about researching this case.
Overall I’m very glad to have read this book. I admittedly hadn’t heard of the Osage murders until the Scorsese trailer, but I’m glad to have become informed now, as this book highlights some of the many injustices that have occurred over centuries against indigenous peoples on their land.
